AN ODE TO EARTH TONES
(or at least a rolling list of good things related to them)
Starting with this guy. Good for pool parties, lawn parties, and blending into your surroundings. Or THIS one. Similar tones. More cats. The sort of thing that’s ideal for times when you want to hide but are also, you know, a bit of an extrovert. These blankets by West Australian Indigenous artists (but especially this one!). These salient and sculptural candle holders deserve to come to your next dinner party. ALSO: where do I even start with pistachio butter? Imagine pistachio gelato but then imagine it at room temp. And thicker! Bolder. More deliberate. I tried to approach it with caution and grace—aka NOT hit it so fast and loose that I’d demolish a jar (by way of eating it not dropping it) within seconds—but here we are. Two (2) jars in. The wheels are off. If you love olive oil, this one is particularly *chef’s kiss*. ALSO: no picture has ever made me want a coffee like this one has (it’s also just a great account to follow in general, if you like food and drink and all that makes life worth living). And speaking of food! A case for beige-ish foods is this corn dish. A case against beige foods: did you ever read this iconic piece of stunt journalism from Gawker (RIP) circa 2014? Involving one brave journalist and a theoretically infinite amount of TGI Friday’s mozzarella sticks? If you haven’t read it, please (PLEASE!) do. It is (I know I say this all the time but THIS TIME I MEAN IT) perhaps my favourite article to have ever graced the internet, ever. And while we’re talking stunt journalism and earth tones and the Western Australian outback and very funny articles from years ago: there’s also this banger. And last but not least, circling back to food, there are these very gorgeous recipe posters, available for a limited time only (until August 6th!). I got this one with pipis and native citrus, because I am both impractical (“cook over apple wood”) and a smidgeon homesick. All proceeds go to OzHarvest, helping feed people in need.
