PEACHES AND CREAM
Hello, hi. WOW! It’s been a minute. I've missed shouting recs in everyone's direction, but will cut right to the chase: there’s a new dreamy, creamy peach number in town, and if you thought I’d be unhinged enough to theme an entire newsletter around creamy, peach-ish things, then you would be correct! Because peaches mean a lot to me. Fave fruit, fave colour, all that jazz. The ways I like to eat them include but are not limited to: fast and loose over the sink, juice dripping chaotically toward the elbow / smooshed up with rapidly melting ice-cream / sliced up with basil and olive oil and cheese / and chopped roughly with whipped cream and meringue. I live for a peach. I will eat them however and whenever they come to me and with whatever they happen to come to me with. BUT never before July. You can never trust a peach before July - and if you’ve been burnt by an underripe peach - if you’ve bitten into a bitchy, bitter, premature one, you know this too. And seeing as it’s not quite July yet, here’s a few peachy things to enjoy in the interim: starting with these test tiles from soft edge studio, which I mistook for a game of checkers, and can you IMAGINE if they were?! There’s also everything Ed Burke ever painted, but especially this one. And while we can all agree that whoever wrote the description for this candle was 100% on shrooms (and could probably do with a glass of water and a good night’s sleep) it does admittedly smell sublime - spicy, juicy, floral (notes of oak moss, peppercorn, mandarin, rose, peach flesh). And speaking of a good night’s sleep, there’s something VERY Polly Pocket about this headboard, no? I’d sell my own mum / all and most of my friends (whatever the cost, really) to slip into a bed adjoined to it, made up with silk sheets, the whole thing looming over me like a glamorous clam shell. If you really wanna really team with the theme there’s also these soft peach linen pillowcases that could really drive the point home. What else? The new Myspace Top 8 is buying decorative taper candles and seeing which of your friends you’d bother lighting them for. There’s also the dusty peach walls of this glorious Melbourne home (and that kitchen and the oxblood bathroom and the flap-out windows and the everything, really). Another rec: this bolognese sauce. It’s deep and rich and stirring it is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon (and while it’s admittedly unrelated to peaches, and to cream, if everything was peaches and cream, you wouldn’t know what peaches and cream tastes like.)
Happy Sunday!
