During the hot summer months, most of Rome’s residents flee the sweltering city for their homes by the coast or in the countrY, so it was by sheer chance that we caught Gabriele Salini and Teresa Lutteroth on the one day they were home before jetting off again until September. Gabriele is the founder of G-Rough hotel on the Piazza di Pasquino in Rome, and more recently, of GS Collection, a hospitality group that he dreams of expanding internationally to bring his lifelong love of art, design, and architecture to life. Teresa, or Tere to friends, is from Tijuana, Mexico, and was drawn to Rome by her passion for Montessori's philosophy of education. It was here that the couple met, and connected on a spiritual level during kundalini yoga sessions at a mutual friend’s studio. They have since had a lovely little daughter, Vigú, whose cheeky little grin would make anyone go weak at the knees.

We met with Gabriele, Teresa, and Vigú in their Roman home filled with artwork, antiques, and treasures from their many adventures to talk about Gabriele’s aspirations for GS Collection, raising their child bilingual and nurturing a connection to both Italian and Mexican cultures, travelling as a family, and of course, their favourite ways to spend a Sunday together.

Hi Gabriele, Hi Teresa, tell us a little bit about yourselves?

GABRIELE: Ciao, I am Gabriele Salini. I was born in Rome, into a long-standing Roman family, and have recently entered into the hospitality industry.  If I had to describe myself, I would say that I am passionate, generous, idealistic and often frustrated with the cynical nature of reality.

TERESA: Hola! I’m Teresa Lutteroth and I was born and raised in Tijuana, Mexico. I love preaching good news about my beloved community and am constantly inviting our friends over for weekly “Taco Tuesdays”. Despite the unfortunate reputation of my hometown, I am undoubtedly a proud Tijuanense. Planning our family trips back to Mexico is always a highlight during the year. I studied pedagogy in California and specialized in the Montessori educational method, a topic that is deeply rooted in Rome, making it both destiny and education that led me here.

 How did you meet?

GABRIELE: We met, in Rome, through a mutual friend from Ecuador. The two of us were practicing kundalini yoga at our neighbour’s studio, where our souls connected. When telling our story, we often describe it as our souls falling in love before our bodies did.

What makes you a good team?

TERESA: Our compatibility stems from our differences. Gabriele is an impulsive Aries, always very determined in everything he does. I am more of a reflective Libra, which can sometimes add doubt to my choices. I like to think we complete each other, filling in our respective gaps.

You have a beautiful family together! What does family mean to you?

TERESA: Thank you! Family plays a crucial role in our everyday routines. It is what keeps us running. In both of our cultures, family is a fundamental value in which we model our best behaviors and principles. Family is precisely what brought us together. The home symbolizes where you start and end the day, where we create the present but also plant seeds for the future.
